New Zealand is expanding its "Earn As You Learn" training programme nationwide to tackle a projected 157,000-worker shortfall in manufacturing, engineering, and logistics by 2030.
Following a successful Waikato pilot with a 90%+ completion rate, the 30-week Level 3 programme will launch in Wellington and expand to Tauranga, Whangarei, and Christchurch by 2026–2027.
Participants gain paid, hands-on experience while completing classroom study, with employers reporting high engagement and plans to hire graduates.
The initiative, backed by industry and education partners, aims to build a sustainable workforce and strengthen the export-driven economy.
The next intake begins in November 2025.
