Maine’s top visitation provider missed 90% of scheduling deadlines in 2024, delaying visits by nearly a month on average, yet kept its state contract with higher pay.
Maine’s largest supervised visitation provider, Community Care, met the state’s seven-day scheduling deadline for child welfare visits only 10% of the time in 2024, missing 246 of 276 referrals, with a median delay of 29 days.
Despite the failure, the state renewed its contract, increasing payments to up to $3.5 million annually.
Officials acknowledge the delays hinder family reunification and burden caseworkers, but state officials say providers are paid only for services delivered and did not detail corrective actions.
Community Care did not respond to requests for comment.
