Ghana’s special prosecutor boosted charges against former NPA head Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine others to 54 counts over alleged $332K extortion and money laundering from oil firms.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor in Ghana has increased charges against former NPA CEO Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine others from 25 to 54 counts, citing new evidence of large-scale extortion, abuse of office, and money laundering.
The accused are alleged to have extorted over GH¢291 million and US$332,000 from oil companies between 2022 and 2024, using the funds to buy property and businesses.
Assets worth more than GH¢100 million, including trucks, fuel stations, and land, have been seized.
The case, known as Republic v. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid & 9 Others, is ongoing at the Accra High Court, with trial proceedings expected soon.
