Gatineau transit proposes arbitration to avoid strike over wages and job security, with service halt looming Oct. 20.
The Gatineau transit authority (STO) has proposed arbitration to prevent a strike by its workers, represented by ATU Local 1557, over unresolved contract disputes involving wages and job security.
If no agreement is reached, all regular bus service will halt starting Monday, October 20, leaving only paratransit and on-demand options.
The union has until 4 p.m. to respond to the arbitration offer, but its president criticized the timing.
The STO warned of major disruptions for commuters, public service workers, students, and seniors, urging alternatives like carpooling, biking, walking, or teleworking.
