Fiji’s deputy PM charged with lying to public official over FICAC appointment; denies allegations.
Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has been charged with perjury and providing false information to a public servant, according to the Suva Magistrates Court.
The case, brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), stems from a Commission of Inquiry into the appointment of Barbara Malimali as FICAC Commissioner.
His mobile phone was seized in July during a search warrant execution.
Kamikamica, currently overseas, denies the allegations, calling them malicious, and has directed inquiries to his legal team.
The case is listed under number 06/25 and is set for hearing in Suva.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has not commented.
