The EU has appointed a special envoy to coordinate efforts against Russia’s shadow fleet, a network of vessels accused of evading sanctions and funding Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
Announced by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas after a foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, the move aims to strengthen unified action, including expanded inspection powers for suspect ships.
The EU also confirmed 25 member states will join a special tribunal to investigate Russian crimes of aggression, with €10 million allocated for its setup.
Kallas emphasized continued pressure on Russia, including upcoming sanctions packages and the need for Ukraine and the EU to be involved in any peace talks.
