Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet officially opened Techo International Airport (TIA) on October 20, 2025, replacing the former Phnom Penh International Airport, which was fully closed.
The $2.3 billion, 4F-level airport, located in Kandal and Takeo provinces, features dual 4-kilometer runways and a Phase 1 capacity for 13 million passengers annually, with plans to expand to 30 million and 50 million.
Developed by Cambodia Airport Investment Co. Ltd. and built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation, TIA is designed to boost economic growth, tourism, and regional connectivity.
It now serves 31 airlines on 44 direct routes, handles about 13,500 passengers daily, and is expected to create 10,000 jobs.
The former airport site will be repurposed for public use, including a park or aviation museum.
The airport, operated by VINCI Airports, also plans a 10-kilometer waterway and an Airport Satellite City to enhance transport and economic development.
