Australia’s PM blocked ABC’s Washington reporter from Trump Oval Office event after his Trump finance exposé, citing space and local press priority.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office denied ABC Washington bureau chief John Lyons access to a scheduled Oval Office press conference with former President Donald Trump, despite prior attendance at similar events.
The decision follows Lyons’ recent Four Corners investigation into Trump’s finances, which prompted Trump to publicly criticize him, calling him a “rude foreign Fake News loser.” While Lyons was excluded, ABC’s Canberra-based correspondent Jane Norman was approved.
The prime minister’s office cited space limitations and prioritized local reporters, though no official explanation was given.
The White House controls press pool access for such events, but host nations can make exceptions.
The meeting is set for Monday with about 12 to 14 journalists expected.
