Seventeen-year-old Japanese skater Ami Nakai won her first Grand Prix title at the Grand Prix de France, defeating three-time world champion Kaori Sakamoto with a near-flawless free skate that earned 149.08 points.
Nakai’s total of 227.08 edged Sakamoto’s 224.23, while Rion Sumiyoshi took bronze.
In pairs, Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara claimed gold with 219.15 points.
American Ilia Malinin led the men’s short program with 105.22 points, ahead of Georgia’s Nika Egadze and Japan’s Kao Miura.
Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson led ice dance after the rhythm dance.
The event is the first of six in the Grand Prix series, leading to the December Grand Prix Final and the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
