Pakistan successfully launched its first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, on October 19, 2025, from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.
Developed by SUPARCO with Chinese support, the satellite enhances capabilities in agriculture, disaster management, urban planning, and environmental monitoring through high-resolution spectral imaging.
It is expected to boost crop yields by 15–20% via improved monitoring of soil moisture, irrigation, and crop health, aiding food security.
HS-1 will also strengthen early warnings for floods, landslides, and earthquakes, particularly in mountainous areas, and support sustainable infrastructure development.
The launch marks a key milestone in Pakistan’s National Space Policy and Vision 2047, adding to its growing Earth observation fleet.
