Indian authorities seized Rs 5.01 crore worth of illegal Chinese firecrackers at Tuticorin Port in a crackdown ahead of Diwali, part of the DRI’s 'Fire Trail' operation.
The firecrackers, hidden in two containers misdeclared as engineering goods and accompanied by silicon sealant guns, were intercepted between October 14 and 18.
Four suspects, including an importer and two from Mumbai, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
The import violates India’s Foreign Trade Policy and Explosive Rules, 2008, posing serious safety risks.
The operation follows a Supreme Court ruling allowing certified green crackers with QR codes verified by NEERI and PESO in Delhi and NCR from October 18 to 21.
