Hundreds attended suicide prevention walks in WV, MS, and TX, raising $33K and promoting mental health despite storms.

On October 18, 2025, hundreds attended the Out of the Darkness Walk in Morgantown, West Virginia, and similar events in Tupelo and Abilene, organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to honor lives lost to suicide and promote mental health awareness. Participants wore color-coded beads and contributed to memorial displays, while raising over $33,000 combined for suicide prevention, education, and advocacy. Despite rainy weather and severe storm warnings, attendees gathered to reduce stigma, share support, and emphasize that help is available through the 988 Lifeline. The events highlighted the ongoing mental health crisis, particularly among youth, and the importance of community connection.
