Albert Jarosz sentenced to 4.5 years for killing pedestrian Rodrigo-Vasile Cosma in a speeding, reckless crash.
Albert Jarosz, 28, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for causing the death of 25-year-old Rodrigo-Vasile Cosma in a Bedford pedestrian crossing crash on March 26, 2024.
Jarosz, driving a turbocharged Audi A6 at 45mph in a 30mph zone, performed a dangerous lane change near the crossing, struck Cosma after the pedestrian light turned red, and was operating the vehicle with two defective tyres.
The victim, a factory supervisor from Romania, died a month later from severe head injuries.
Jarosz admitted to careless driving but denied dangerous driving, claiming he had not read the UK Highway Code and was unfamiliar with local roads.
The judge called the driving “appalling,” imposing a seven-year, three-month driving ban.
Cosma’s father urged drivers to be more attentive, calling the tragedy a result of just “two seconds of not paying attention.”
