64-year-old Jeni Barnacle rowed 126km across East Anglia waterways to support inclusive rowing, inspired by a youth program.
Jeni Barnacle, a 64-year-old rower from Rockland St Mary, completed a 126.4km challenge combining hiking in the Lake District and rowing across Suffolk and Norfolk waterways, inspired by a youth rowing pilot project funded by Love Rowing. Using a loaned coastal scull and her own river scull, she rowed on Oulton Broad, the River Waveney, Rockland and Surlingham Broads, and the River Yare, finishing at Oulton Broad. The effort aimed to raise funds and awareness for inclusive rowing opportunities, highlighting the newly affiliated British Rowing club and the Lowestoft Coastal Sculling Academy. Barnacle, who hasn’t rowed regularly due to coaching duties, said the challenge proved people of all ages can achieve ambitious goals.
