Ring now lets 5,000 police agencies request user footage via Flock Safety, reversing past limits.
Amazon’s Ring is expanding police access to user footage through a new partnership with surveillance firm Flock Safety, allowing about 5,000 law enforcement agencies to request video from Ring users for active investigations.
Requests, sent via the Ring Neighbors app, require specific details and are optional, with users able to review and share footage anonymously.
The move reverses Ring’s prior restrictions on warrantless police access and follows the return of founder Jamie Siminoff.
While Amazon says only local agencies can request footage and all activity is logged, concerns persist over Flock’s use by federal entities like ICE, the Secret Service, and the Navy, raising privacy and surveillance risks.
