A Northern giraffe calf named Namara was born safely at a UK park, surviving a fall and thriving with her mother.
A female Northern giraffe calf named Namara was born on October 8, 2025, at West Midlands Safari Park in the UK, surviving a 6-foot fall onto soft hay.
She took her first steps just 40 minutes after birth and is thriving, nursing and bonding with her mother Akacia and another adult female.
Named “Namara,” meaning “sunshine,” she is part of a conservation effort for the endangered Northern giraffe, threatened by habitat loss, poaching, and climate change.
The calf, one of several animals born this year with names starting with “N,” is expected to join the herd and soon be viewable on the park’s safari drive-through.
