Myanmar's military junta recaptured Hsipaw in northern Shan State on October 16, 2025, after a 16-day operation, reclaiming a key trade town on the route between Mandalay and China’s Yunnan province.
The town, home to about 20,000 people, had been held by the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) since October 2024.
The junta reported seizing 13 bodies of TNLA fighters, while the TNLA accused the military of war crimes, including airstrikes and drone attacks, citing 29 civilian deaths since the offensive began.
The conflict is part of the broader war following the 2021 coup, with both sides fighting for control of strategic towns and mining areas in Shan State.
