Lincoln Public Schools and ALLO Fiber have launched the Smart Schools initiative, giving students in grades 6–12 free, secure access to high-speed Wi-Fi across Lincoln and surrounding areas through ALLO’s SmartTown network.
The program, built on ALLO’s fiber infrastructure and Calix technology, allows school-issued Chromebooks to automatically connect at homes, businesses, and public spaces, addressing digital equity gaps exacerbated by the pandemic.
About 2,000 high school students are currently enrolled, with plans to expand district-wide.
Students must opt in via the LPS student portal, with parent approval required.
Officials, including the mayor and governor, praised the effort as a key step toward ensuring all students have reliable internet access for modern education.
