Julian Assange accuses Spain’s David Morales of spying for the U.S. during his 2015–2018 embassy stay, leading to Morales’ guilty verdict on espionage and related charges.
Julian Assange is seeking a 20-year prison sentence for David Morales, head of Spain’s Undercover Global security firm, accusing him of spying on Assange for the U.S. between 2015 and 2018 while Assange was in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
Morales, a former military officer, is charged with espionage, bribery, money laundering, and illegal weapons possession after allegedly installing surveillance cameras, sharing private conversations with U.S. allies, and transmitting recordings in real time.
The Spanish court found Morales guilty, and his case remains under trial.
Assange, released from a UK prison in June 2024 after a plea deal with the U.S., had lived in the embassy for seven years to avoid extradition, citing fears of U.S. prosecution over WikiLeaks’ leaks.
