Jacksonville councilmember questions $65M autonomous shuttle program over low ridership and high costs.
Jacksonville City Councilmember Rory Diamond is demanding answers from the JTA on its $65 million NAVI autonomous shuttle program, citing low ridership—about 137 daily—cost concerns, and questionable feasibility.
He sent 17 questions to JTA CEO Nat Ford, seeking details on costs, safety, and long-term plans, and plans to confront JTA leaders at a November 4 meeting.
Ford confirmed responses will be delivered by November 3.
Diamond, who chairs the Duval DOGE Committee, called the project a potential waste of taxpayer money and said he would reconsider his opposition only if a clear, viable plan is presented.
Public feedback remains sparse, with few riders aware of or able to discuss the service.
