Indian Embassy aids 11 stranded West Bengal workers in Oman after fraud; repatriation and support follow.
Eleven West Bengal migrant workers from Murshidabad, stranded in Oman after being defrauded by a recruitment agency, have been provided food and shelter by the Indian Embassy following state government intervention.
The workers, who arrived about 10 to 11 months ago and stopped receiving salaries, were left without support for nearly nine months.
The state government, alerted by families in late September, coordinated through the MEA’s Madad portal to locate and assist them.
The Trinamool Congress urged swift repatriation, highlighting ongoing concerns about unsafe migration and unregulated recruitment.
Upon return, workers will receive livelihood support under the state’s Shramashree scheme.
