A Georgia woman pleaded guilty to killing her 13-month-old daughter by leaving her in a hot car, where she died from hyperthermia.
Ariel Jamiyla Osbey, 29, of Newton County, Georgia, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and making a false statement in the 2023 death of her 13-month-old daughter, Imani Osbey, who died from hyperthermia after being left in a hot car for nearly five hours.
Osbey, a home cleaner, admitted to leaving the infant in her vehicle while working, returning to find her unresponsive.
Emergency responders found Imani’s internal temperature at 107 degrees, and she was pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage contradicted Osbey’s claim that she had taken the child into a home, and evidence showed the car’s interior was extremely hot.
The case was delayed due to a mental health evaluation.
A sentencing date has been set.
