Fishing for Chinook salmon in part of the Umatilla River is closed from Oct. 18 to Nov. 30 to protect spawning fish.
Starting Oct. 18, 2025, retaining Chinook salmon in the Umatilla River from Hwy 730 bridge upstream to Threemile Dam is closed through Nov. 30 due to low fall Chinook returns and rising harvest rates.
The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife implemented the closure to protect spawning fish and support broodstock collection at Threemile Dam.
Anglers may still fish for salmon and steelhead but must release any Chinook caught.
The daily bag limit remains three fish total, including all species.
ODFW urges anglers to check current regulations before fishing.
