Youth diversion program in Ontario seeks male mentors to help 30–40 at-risk youth due to Big Brothers Big Sisters closure.
Youth Diversion in the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington region is urgently seeking adult male mentors to address a growing waitlist of 30 to 40 youth, mostly boys, facing personal, social, or legal challenges.
With the closure of Big Brothers Big Sisters in the area, demand is rising, and the program relies on trained mentors to provide consistent guidance, role modeling, and access to positive activities.
Executive director Shawn Quigley says just two to three hours weekly for six months can improve a youth’s success by about 50%.
The organization, funded by United Way, the Kinsmen Club, and donations, is not currently eligible for provincial or federal volunteer tax credits, a gap Quigley hopes to resolve.
He emphasizes mentoring as a powerful tool to support youth, especially amid declining volunteerism since the pandemic, and urges men to step forward.
