Vernon Jones, backed by Trump, is running in Georgia’s open 10th District GOP primary.
Vernon Jones, who withdrew from Georgia’s 2024 gubernatorial race at Donald Trump’s urging, has confirmed he is running in the Republican primary for the state’s 10th Congressional District, an open seat left by retiring Rep. Jody Hice.
Jones, a former Democratic state representative who switched to the GOP in 2021, cited border security, opposition to federal election laws, and medical freedoms as key issues.
His entry into the crowded race follows a private meeting where Trump reportedly promised to endorse him for Congress.
Jones, who has faced a 2004 rape allegation that led to no charges, dismissed criticism as politically motivated and embraced the nickname “Black Donald Trump.” The district spans parts of Atlanta’s suburbs to Athens.
