The dog, working with handler Senior Constable Adam Johannsen, sustained burns to her hindquarters but was protected from more severe injury by booties.
She was treated at Massey University Veterinary Hospital, where she underwent surgery and is receiving ongoing care.
Johannsen also suffered minor burns but stayed with her throughout treatment.
Police officials visited the hospital, praised the veterinary team, and expressed hope for Teo’s recovery while continuing the search for missing Tokoroa teacher Jayleb-Che Dean.
