flag A Portland deputy was cleared after shooting an intoxicated man who pointed a gun at officers; the man survived and faces multiple charges.

Multnomah County Deputy Matthew Hansen was cleared by the district attorney’s office of criminal charges for shooting Luis Cervantes-Santiago during a June 6, 2025, incident in Portland’s Parkrose neighborhood. Cervantes-Santiago, reportedly intoxicated, was seen pointing a handgun at officers from about 40 feet away after being ordered to drop it. Hansen fired, striking Cervantes-Santiago, who survived with serious injuries. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered, and another resident fired shots during the exchange. The Portland Police Bureau and district attorney found Hansen’s actions justified. Cervantes-Santiago was indicted on multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder and reckless endangerment.
