Pakistan is seeking China’s support for membership in the New Development Bank (NDB), a BRICS-backed institution, with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb formally requesting Beijing’s backing during a meeting in Washington, D.C.
He highlighted growing Chinese investment in Pakistan’s key sectors and noted the country’s progress on economic reforms, including a recent IMF staff-level agreement and the planned issuance of Panda Bonds.
Pakistan has approved purchasing $582 million in NDB capital shares, with $116 million paid, signaling its commitment to joining the bank.
The move is part of broader efforts to stabilize the economy, attract foreign investment, and strengthen international economic ties.
