Ontario funds Northumberland County's safety hub and mental health initiatives.
Ontario has allocated $788,501.97 to Northumberland County police services for 2025-26 through the Community Safety and Policing Grant Program.
Cobourg Police will use $149,000 to launch a Community Safety Hub, integrating police, fire, health, and social services to address mental health, substance use, and housing instability.
The initiative aims to improve collaboration and outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Additional funding supports expanded Mental Health Engagement and Response Teams (M-HEART) in Cobourg and Port Hope, enhanced mental health outreach with local hospitals, and support for the Peterborough and Northumberland Counties Human Trafficking Coalition.
These projects are part of 127 provincial grants totaling over $91 million, focusing on mental health, human trafficking, homelessness, and violence prevention.
