Nepal approves $22M in cross-border power lines with India to boost hydropower exports.
Nepal has approved a NPR 3 billion investment to build two 400 kV cross-border transmission lines with India—the Inaruwa–New Purnia and Dododhara–Bareilly lines—jointly developed by Nepal and India through 51% majority-owned joint ventures.
The projects, targeting completion by 2028–29 and 2029–30, will expand Nepal’s ability to export up to 10,000 MW of electricity to India over the next decade.
This follows recent power exports worth NPR 15 billion since mid-2025, underscoring hydropower’s growing economic importance.
