A man was jailed for 24 weeks for using a device to send scam messages at London's Victoria station, tricking commuters into revealing personal data.
A 31-year-old man, Kong Ji Chen, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison for using an "SMS blaster" to send fraudulent messages to thousands of commuters at London’s Victoria station on July 1, 2025.
The scam, posing as a delivery notification from Parcel Mail, tricked recipients into clicking a link to steal personal data.
A bystander spotted the scam and reported it, leading police to find Chen near a suitcase containing the device’s components.
Despite claiming he was given the suitcase by another person, investigators found he had received the same scam message on his phone.
Over 165 reports were logged from the same number between 2:38pm and 10:37pm.
The case highlights the importance of public awareness and cooperation with authorities in combating digital fraud.
