Jonathan Larsen narrowly wins Kaipara mayoral race by 21 votes after special votes were counted.
Jonathan Larsen has been declared the new mayor of Kaipara District, winning by a 21-vote margin after the final count included special votes.
He received 3,138 votes, narrowly defeating Snow Tane, who will serve as a councillor for the Wairoa ward.
Former mayor Jason Smith finished third with 3,081 votes.
Craig Jepson, the outgoing mayor, was elected to the Kaiwaka-Mangawhai ward, while Mike Schimanski and Denise Rogers won seats in Ōtamatea.
All votes have been counted, and the new council members will begin their roles on October 18, with a swearing-in ceremony and inaugural meeting scheduled for October 30.
Final results for other Northland councils are pending.
