James Cunneen sentenced to 6 years for helping cover up 2014 murder of mother Carly McBride.
James Cunneen, 34, was sentenced to six years in prison for aiding the killer of mother Carly McBride, whose 2014 murder in New South Wales was motivated by jealousy.
Cunneen, driven by loyalty to her boyfriend and killer Sayle Newson, helped dispose of her body in remote bushland, provided a false alibi, and staged a search using his phone.
His 2022 conviction was overturned, leading to a retrial in 2025, where he was again found guilty.
Judge Mark Buscombe cited Cunneen’s youth, drug use, and potential for rehabilitation, while acknowledging the lasting trauma to McBride’s family.
Cunneen is expected to become eligible for parole in November 2026.
