Indian forces seized 90,000 bottles of banned cough syrup and drugs in northeast India.
On October 16–17, 2025, Indian security forces seized 90,000 bottles of banned Escuf Cough Syrup—containing codeine phosphate—worth about ₹2 crore from two train wagons at Jirania Railway Station in Tripura, following a joint operation involving police, customs, and railway authorities.
The syrup, a controlled substance under India’s NDPS Act, was hidden among unclaimed cargo.
In separate actions, Assam Rifles and local police seized heroin worth ₹3 crore in Cachar, recovered narcotics including Brown Sugar and Yaba tablets in Manipur and along the Assam-Manipur border, and intercepted drugs transported from Myanmar through Mizoram and southern Assam.
All suspects and contraband were handed over to authorities for investigation.
