India proposes harsher fines for telecom firms failing to report tariff changes on time.
India's telecom regulator TRAI has proposed steeper fines for telecom and internet providers that fail to report tariff changes within seven working days, with penalties rising to ₹10,000 per day for the first week and ₹20,000 daily thereafter, capped at ₹5 lakh.
A new graded system includes interest on delayed payments and higher penalties for repeat or severe violations, including fines up to 1% of annual turnover for false reporting.
The changes aim to boost transparency and compliance, with feedback due by October 31, 2025.
