India outsources Haldia terminal to IRC under 10-year deal to boost river freight on Ganga.
India has handed over operations of the Haldia Multi-Modal Terminal in West Bengal to IRC Natural Resources under a 10-year public-private partnership, with a possible five-year extension.
The terminal, built with World Bank support and inaugurated in January 2023, handles 3.08 million metric tonnes annually and connects to National Highway 41 and planned rail links.
Selected via open bidding, IRC will pay a royalty of Rs 105.03 per tonne of cargo.
The move supports the government’s Jal Marg Vikas Project, which aims to modernize National Waterway-1 along the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system through infrastructure upgrades to improve freight efficiency and promote eco-friendly transport to Northeast India and Bangladesh.
India externaliza la terminal de Haldia a IRC bajo un acuerdo de 10 años para impulsar la carga fluvial en Ganga.
