Awdry, born in 1911, wrote 26 books in the series, later continued by his son Christopher, helping the franchise reach millions of sales.
The plaque, unveiled by his daughter Veronica Chambers and Historic England’s Duncan Wilson, recognizes his lasting legacy during the UK’s Railway 200 celebrations.
