Ford recalls 59,000 vehicles over fire risk from faulty engine block heaters.
Ford is recalling about 59,000 vehicles from 2016 to 2024, including certain Ford Explorers, Bronco Sports, Lincoln Corsairs, and Fusion sedans, due to a fire risk from engine block heaters. Cracks in the heater’s solder joints may allow coolant to enter the power cord, causing electrical shorts and potential fires. The issue affects only models with 2.0- or 2.3-liter engines equipped with Ford-supplied block heaters. The recall follows 6 customer complaints, 21 safety claims from Transport Canada, and 30 legal claims tied to fires. Owners should stop using the block heater if they notice coolant leaks, reduced heat, or burning smells. This brings Ford’s 2025 recalls to 115, making up 35% of all U.S. vehicle recalls this year.
