Dr. Jason Smith has been named permanent CEO of UofL Health, becoming the first physician-led CEO in the region.
He previously served as interim CEO and chief medical officer since June, bringing extensive clinical and administrative experience.
A University of Louisville School of Medicine faculty member since 2008, Smith holds a Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics, an MBA, and is board-certified in surgery and critical care.
He gained national attention during the pandemic as the first Kentuckian to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The appointment was praised by University of Louisville President Gerry Bradley, who highlighted Smith’s leadership and commitment to patient care.
UofL Health operates nine hospitals, four medical centers, the Brown Cancer Center, Eye Institute, and over 250 locations across Kentucky and southern Indiana with more than 1,200 providers.
