Czech fishermen harvested 100 tonnes of carp and other fish from Rozmberk Pond, a centuries-old tradition marking Christmas preparations.
On Friday, hundreds of Czech fishermen harvested carp from Rozmberk Pond, the country’s largest artificial lake, in a centuries-old tradition marking the start of Christmas preparations.
The event, drawing thousands, yielded about 100 metric tonnes of fish, mostly carp, with the rest including pike, catfish, and tench.
The fish will be sold at markets and used in traditional Christmas Eve meals.
The pond is part of a 500-pond network built in the late 16th century, supporting both fishing and flood control.
While some seasonal challenges were noted, harvests and prices remained stable, preserving this cultural and ecological practice.
