A Chinese court heard the case of Xu Faqi, leader of a Myanmar-based gang that defrauded Chinese citizens, after his arrest in January 2024.
A Chinese court held a public hearing on October 17, 2025, for Xu Faqi, a key figure in a major criminal gang based in northern Myanmar’s Kokang region that orchestrated widespread telecom and online fraud targeting Chinese citizens.
The group, active since 2019, allegedly ran 14 compounds, committed over 3,400 fraud cases, and generated illicit gains exceeding 1.1 billion yuan ($155 million), using over 400 armed militiamen to enforce control through violence, detention, and abuse.
Captured in January 2024 by Myanmar police under a bilateral law enforcement agreement, Xu was transferred to China.
As part of the crackdown, more than 57,000 Chinese nationals suspected of fraud in the region have been apprehended, highlighting ongoing China-Myanmar cooperation to dismantle transnational crime networks.
