China expels two top military leaders for corruption ahead of key party meeting.
China has expelled two top military leaders, General He Weidong and Admiral Miao Hua, from the Communist Party and the People’s Liberation Army over serious disciplinary and legal violations, including corruption involving large sums of money, according to the defense ministry.
He, the second-highest-ranking general and a Politburo member, had been absent from public view since March, while Miao was removed from the Central Military Commission in June after a November investigation.
The purge, part of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign since 2023, marks the highest-level military removal since the Cultural Revolution and comes ahead of the Communist Party’s Fourth Plenum, where further personnel changes may occur.
