The Secret Agent, a historical political thriller directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and starring Wagner Moura, has released its first trailer ahead of a November 26, 2025, release by Neon. Set in 1977 Recife during Brazil’s military dictatorship, the film follows Marcelo, a widowed tech researcher who becomes a fugitive after being targeted, seeking refuge with a resistance network led by a mysterious woman. The film, Brazil’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards, premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation and earned Filho the Best Director award and Moura Best Actor. It has since been hailed as a top Oscar contender.
