A 2-year-old Malagasy girl received a free, life-changing surgery on a grapefruit-sized tumor aboard a Mercy Ships hospital vessel.
A two-year-old girl from Madagascar, Armella, had a grapefruit-sized tumor removed in July 2024 aboard the Mercy Ships floating hospital, the Africa Mercy, in Toamasina.
The free surgery, performed by volunteer surgeons, reversed facial deformity and head posture issues caused by the nearly 280-gram tumor, restoring her health and future.
Her mother, facing extreme poverty and limited access to care, called the mission a lifeline.
Mercy Ships has performed over 7,500 surgeries in Madagascar, providing critical medical help to those who otherwise could not afford treatment.
