Wisconsin Senate passes bill to ban cellphones in schools, pending governor’s approval.
The Wisconsin State Senate passed a bill requiring school districts to ban cellphones during instructional time, with exceptions for emergencies, education, and student accommodations, after a 29-4 vote.
The legislation, backed by Republicans and supported by a Marquette Law School poll showing 89% public approval, mandates policies be in place by July 2026.
The Senate also approved bills on breast cancer screening coverage and candidate ballot removal.
Democrats criticized the Senate’s limited floor activity and lack of action on federal aid cuts, while concerns were raised over student safety and parental communication.
The bill now awaits Governor Tony Evers’ decision.
