A man in Wisconsin was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Thursday after a critical incident in the Town of Franzen, where he armed himself with a knife during a welfare check following self-harm threats.
Deputies located him on Comet Road around 1:15 p.m. and used negotiation and less-than-lethal tactics, but he inflicted self-inflicted wounds.
No officers were hurt, and officials say the incident appears isolated.
An independent investigation will be led by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office with support from Wood County, as required by state law.
Authorities urge those with information to come forward and remind individuals in crisis to contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or local mental health resources.
