A new NETSCOUT report reveals a sharp rise in DDoS attacks across West Africa in early 2025, with Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Mali facing the longest attacks—averaging up to seven hours—while Mali saw a surge from 115 to 4,145 incidents.
Nigeria recorded the most complex attacks, with up to 23 vectors in one event, and experienced unusual targeting of beauty salons and consumer electronics.
In contrast, Ghana, Liberia, and Cameroon saw significant declines in attacks.
The report links Mali’s vulnerability to political instability and weak cybersecurity, while noting a shift in cyber threats toward disruption rather than data theft.
