Virgin Australia launches in-cabin pet service for small dogs on select routes, starting Oct. 16, 2025.
Virgin Australia has launched Australia’s first in-cabin pet service, allowing small dogs under eight kilograms to travel in the cabin on select Melbourne-to-Gold Coast and Melbourne-to-Sunshine Coast flights, starting October 16, 2025.
Pets must fit in carriers under seats in designated rows, remain under the seat throughout the flight, and be crate-trained.
The trial, limited to small breeds and initially excluding cats, charges $149 per pet per flight and runs until January 2026, with plans to expand nationally within a year.
The airline cites demand and successful international models as drivers, while offering allergy-sensitive passengers free seat changes and emphasizing air filtration to reduce pet dander.
