UK homeowners who sold in the past 18 months made an average gross profit of £72,000, or 38%, according to a Zoopla analysis of property data from March 2024 to September 2025.
Detached homes delivered the highest gains at £122,500, or 45%, followed by semi-detached (£80,000, 44%), terraced (£64,250, 40%), and flats (£27,000, 15%).
Scottish sellers earned £37,200 on average, a 24% return, after six years.
The average ownership period was nine years.
Zoopla’s Richard Donnell said gains reflect past house price inflation unlikely to continue due to lower recent growth, and advised realistic pricing amid record-high home inventory levels to avoid extended selling times.
