Three Cumbrian Labour MPs have backed the UK government’s £11.7 million Connect to Work scheme, which aims to help residents with health issues, disabilities, or other barriers find employment.
The program will offer job advisers in GP surgeries, interview coaching, confidence workshops, and childcare support, focusing on delivering services where people are, through local health and community partnerships.
MPs said the initiative provides a “hand up, not a handout,” helping individuals rebuild skills and confidence to re-enter the workforce, as part of a broader effort to boost employment and strengthen communities across Cumbria.
